Tomato facts

Did you know that tomatoes are packed with nutrients? And that Thermomix allows you to take the most advantage of some of these? For instance, tomatoes are rich in the antioxidant lycopene. High heat makes it easier to absorb, therefore enjoy Thermomix-made tomato sauces and soups to your heart’s content! Avoid peeling your tomatoes, as the skin if filled with fibre, and instead rely on Thermomix blending for smooth yet healthy results. And if you eat the tomatoes raw in a Gazpacho, you’ll benefit the most from their many vitamins. Store ripe tomatoes in a cool room such as the cellar or in the fridge.

Plum tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, beef tomatoes

Tomatoes come in many shapes, colours and sizes. Standard tomatoes are the most versatile, and good all the year round. Choose plum tomatoes for cooking as their low water content produces a more intense flavour. Cherry tomatoes are the sweetest, and good for salads or sauces. Beef tomatoes are large and juicy, delicious both raw and cooked. Green tomatoes are a variety that stays green even when ripe, and should not be eaten raw. As for yellow tomatoes, there is no difference with red ones, but a mix will brighten up your salad bowl!
